Team Decision Making

Team Decision Making (TDM) meetings occur when issues arise regarding the placement and safety of a child. The goal of a TDM meeting is to create a safety plan to protect a child.

Most TDM meetings occur when a child:

- Is at risk for entering the child welfare system
A child could be removed from their family home due to abuse or neglect

- Who is in a foster care or kinship home is being moved
For instance, when the foster or kinship parent can no longer care for the child and a new    placement is required.

- Is transitioning to a permanent home
For instance, when the child is reunited with his/her family or is adopted by another family.

A TDM meeting typically involves people who have the best interest of a child at heart. This process ensures that all voices are heard and creates the best protection plan for the child. The meeting may include social workers, parents, relatives, family friends, foster parents and a community advocate.
